bio
freelance writer & editor & content strategist based in rochester, ny
in her previous lives, leah worked as a backpack journalist, video host, disney princess, theatre critic, magazine editor, college professor, social media manager, event founder/planner, and food media entrepreneur
it all began with finding good stories.
as a kid, i was an avid reader-turned-theatre nerd who grew up in a dairy farming town and then, english major-turned-journalism intern who fell in love with city life.
i finished undergrad during the great recession in 2008, lost my web editor job in 2010, and went to grad j-school (aka found my people) in my mid-20s. ‘pivot’ is a word i live by.
over the last 12 years, my myriad gigs include backpack journalism, video hosting, web production, disney princess party appearances, arts publicity, wedding updo styling, theatre criticism, photography, magazine editing, theatre direction, college professor-ing, social media management for hospitality brands, event founding/planning, fringe festival pr + social media, kickstarter campaigning, and food media entrepreneurship.
in 2019, i founded mavenue media, which largely creates content for arts & hospitality clients, and i continue to teach for the newhouse school as an adjunct prof. in 2021, i cofounded a print-only lit magazine — LILAC. — that operates on a paid contributor and profit-sharing model.
i’m always up for a new venture or idea.
and always, finding the story.
